Ampalay can cure diabetes

Posted by Julz | 8:17 AM | | 0 comments »

Ampalaya which is commonly called bitter melon or bitter gourd (Momordica charantia) or maraguso in waray, apalya in pampango and paliya in bisaya was believed by some Filipinos and even people from outside of the Philippine to have a healing power against diabetes. Ampalaya is said to be the best anti-hyperglycemic herbs and claimed to be proven itself beyond doubt as an effective medicine against diabetes. Ampalaya has a potent mix of flavanoids and alkaloids that are believed to make the Pancreas either produce more insulin, make the body more sensitive to insulin already produced, and/or generate new beta cell populations at the Islets of Langerhans. The marketing of ampalaya herbal medicine as a cure to diabetes does not only flourish in the Philippines but also reach a global scope.

Ampalaya came into the picture because it is being touted to lower blood sugar. However, the Department of Health (DOH) in the previous years banned any commercials and advertisements promoting the use of herbal capsule made from ampalya as an ‘alternative, safe, and an efective medicine’ to diabetes. According to them, there is no scientific studies and basis proving ampalaya as a cure to diabetes. It doesn’t even receive a favorable finding from the US Food and Drug Administration approving the drug for sale to the public. The DOH Secretary at that time countered that the only study on ampalaya had only 27 subjects and while it showed a decrease in blood sugar, it did not decrease fasting blood glucose. Due to sample size limitations, the findings have not been able to establish ampalaya as truly beneficial and even as an adjunctive treatment to diabetes.

Cebu is one of the provinces of the Philippines. It lies to the east of Negros Island; to the west is Leyte and to the southeast is Bohol province. It is flanked on both sides by the straits of Bohol (between Cebu and Bohol) and Tañon (between Cebu and Negros). Cebu is located between 9°25'N and 11°15'N latitude and between 123°13'E and 124°5'E longitude in the center of the archipelago.

Cebu Island is a long narrow island stretching 225 km (140 mi) from north to south, surrounded by 167 neighboring smaller islands, that includes Mactan Island, Bantayan, Malapascua, Olango and the Camotes Islands. Of the hundreds of small islands some are uninhabited which make them the targets of adventure-seeking tourists.

MALAPASCUA ISLAND

This island and surrounding area is right on and off the northern tip of Cebu and off the west coast of Leyte. As it is a 3 hour drive from the capital and the main diving centre of Mactan, it is visited far less. This also means that the diving infrastructure is not so well developed, but is improving.

Colon st.

The oldest street in the philippines!!
Named after Christopher Colombus, it was built by the Spaniards during the time of Miguel Lopez de Legaspi. At present, it is the heart of downtown Cebu, a glittering city by night lined with restaurants, department stores, and other business establishments.

Pinakbet is one of the filipino food dishes that my hubby likes to eat. He’s very fond of eating any kind of vegetables. No matter how it was prepared and cooked. It is very easy for him when it comes with vegetables.

Growing up until college, I’m very picky when it comes with vegetables. I’m not fond of eating vegetables until I’ve met my hubby. He taught me how to eat and the benefit of eating this type of food. Slowly, I’ve learned to love and appreciate the taste of vegetables like this pinakbet. I remember then eating out on a date he preferred to choose food dishes with vegetables. He wanted me to learn to eat vegetables. It sounds funny but its true. Being with him, with the type of food he eats, I have no choice but to learn to love and appreciate the kind of foods he eats, specially this filipino food.

Learning on things that my hubby loves especially on foods is what I enhanced the most. As the saying goes- "The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach". I’ve got the chance to learn more of vegetables recipes here in Canada. Away from home, we missed a lot of filipino comfort food. Pinakbet, an authentic filipino dish is one of them. I also like Pork Chopsuey, Repolyo Guisado (Sautéed Cabbage), Togue Guisado (Sautéed Bean Sprouts), Sayote Guisado (Sautéed Chayote) and many other filipino veggie dishes.

Last June 28, 2007, Greg Oden was selected first overall in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers. NBA analyst Steve Kerr has described Greg Oden as a "once-in-a-decade player."

Apparently, He was inured his wrist during the high school sextional tournament in March but perservered to help the Wildcats win a third consecutive Class 4A state championship; he totaled 26 points and 11 rebounds in an 80-56 victory over Muncie Central in the March 26 title game

He then played in two national all-star games, the McDonald's All-American Game on March 29 in San Diego and the Roundball Classic on April 9 in Chicago.

"I've known I had a torn ligament since right after the Roundball Classic," Greg Oden said. "After that, it was in a splint for two weeks, and I was hoping that I would be back (for the Indiana All-Star events)."

Another visit to the doctor and follow-up MRI on Tuesday showed the injury had not healed. Greg Oden said he was not given a timetable for returning to action.

Despite his inability to play, Greg Oden plans on attending both games against Kentucky and two of the three exhibitions against the Junior All-Stars, including today's tuneup at Forest Park High School. He will not be at Tuesday's exhibition in Valparaiso because he begins summer school at Ohio State on Monday and has an early class two days after that.

Greg Oden's high school and Ohio State teammate Mike Conley also is enrolled in summer-school classes that begin Monday, but Conley is expected to play in all the All-Star events, game director Pat Aikman said.

A Mr. Basketball's absence from All-Star action because of injury is not unprecedented. In 1970, Carmel's David Shepherd missed the opener at Louisville with a knee injury. He shot just two free throws (making both) in the second game in Indianapolis.

"Everyone was looking forward to playing with Greg, but they're more disappointed for Greg than they are to not play with him," All-Star coach Chris Benedict of Columbia City said of the team's reaction to the news. "It's an unfortunate situation that he can't control. He's a good, humble kid."

Flying Cars for 2010

YAVNE, Israel — Rafi Yoeli has an unconventional solution to saving people from burning high-rises or rescuing soldiers trapped behind enemy lines: a flying car.

Yoeli already has gotten a rudimentary vehicle off the ground — about three feet — and hopes to see a marketable version of his X-Hawk flying car by 2010.

Although his dream might seem far-fetched, Textron Inc.'s (TXT) Bell Helicopters is taking a serious look, teaming with Yoeli's privately held Urban Aeronautics to explore X-Hawk's potential.

Brainchild of the Chicago based Skidmore, Owings & Merrill architect Adrian Smith, the Burj Dubai Tower started life in the guise as the 560m Melbourne Grollo Tower design proposal.

Its upward-spiral design was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (of Chicago, Il, USA). Burj Tower's three-sided design will ascend in stages, around a supportive central core. Its shape will be integral to its impressive size. The design is intended to reduce the impact of wind and to reduce the need for a stronger core - allowing for more space - as it ascends.

Due to an overwhelming construction cost it was scrapped, only to be reborn in May 2003, as the tower was redesigned into a 705m proposal for a large plot in the Burj area of Dubai.

According to the developers, it will be the tallest building on earth. However at the end of June 2006 a height of 2650ft (807.7m) has been made public by some of the firms involved in this project.

Since the first groundbraking around the site on September 21st 2004, there have been many un-official changes in the towers final height by those working closely to the project

The excavation, piling and raft foundation have already been completed. The tower will combine residential and commercial space; a boutique hotel, recreational facilities, apartments and an observatory will fill its estimated 500,000 square meters of space. It will be a part of an $8 billion development in the United Arab Emirates.

Make Code Easier for Website

Building your website with includes

For this article I thought I would share a few tips on how to design and organize the construction of your web sites in a way that will not only keep your coding skills tidy but will allow you to change and edit page elements quickly and easily as and when your site needs updating.

Scripting Languages

I’m talking or course about the server side "Include Function". But before we begin remember that the include functionis not a feature of standard HTML (Hypertext Market Language) but can only be used with more advanced scripting languages such as PHP (Hypertext Pre-Processor) or ASP (Active Server Pages).

Now you may be thinking but I don’t know any ASP or PHP, well it doesn’t matter, the simple task of renaming your filenames from .html to .php or .asp will automatically give your pages some hidden abilities.

Now if you are totally unfamiliar with advanced scripting languages you will first need to be sure that the web server that you are going to be developing your web site on supports scripting languages, you can contact your hosting company and either find out or upgrade to a server that is running PHP or ASP, it may costs a few extra pennies a month on top of standard hosting but its worth it (as you will soon see).

How the Include Function works

In its most basic form it all boils down to separating the main commonly used sections of your site such as the header, navigation and footer into individual files. Your main pages for example homepage.asp will then pull all of these files together using the include function. Below you can see a diagram illustrating this principle:

To start with simply create your homepage as you would normally in HTML. Once its complete it is then time to start seperating sections of this document into separate files.
